Dear Anne: Love Letters from Nam $1.99...

My new story (fiction) is available on Amazon as a Kindle ebook for $1.99. Dear Anne will probably never be in book form as it's too short to stand alone. However, the love letters are part of a novel, and I decided to make the letters into a short story. Thus, Dear Anne was born.  The larger work is still on the back burner, waiting to have more scenes written.

Dear Anne has had some positive reviews so far and I'm delighted with the reception it's getting. It's a romance and set during the heat of the Vietnam War.

I hope if you have time to read the love story about newlyweds Anne in WV and Rob in Vietnam, you'll leave a review on Amazon. Reviews help in so many ways. Not only do they help get a story noticed but it helps the author's other books get recognition as well. My goal is to move up in the ranks and have more and more readers. I don't care if the readers are from free books or Amazon sales. A writer wants his or her work read and appreciated, free or otherwise.

On a personal note, I'm taking one step forward and two back as I move along without my husband.
His loss in November has changed all areas of my life. I'm in new territory every single day. A new challenge arises. A new adventure comes along. Or I face an occasional bump in the road and have to deal with it. Alone.

I've bought a car without him, made out a new budget, changed some decorations in the house and rearranged furniture. I've added a new piece here or there. Small changes. The house feels different. I suppose to go with the different person I am becoming. Not sure I am comfortable with this new person. But I have no choice. The changes that have come uninvited have made me different. I'm the same but different if that makes sense.

There are many pros in my life right now. I've had lots of time with family and friends and my writing is beginning to bubble on that back burner. Projects are beginning to call my name.

Chores I've let go for months are now getting done. I have energy again. I'm ready for whatever comes my way.

How about you? Have you had changes in your life lately? Are you ready as our spring rapidly turns to summer?

Do have a lovely Mother's Day! Be kind! Courteous! AND hug someone today.

May God bless your life richly as He has mine. Comment and let me know what's new with you.
Hugs, Barb

  1. Wishing you a wonderful Mother's Day, Barb. Miss you....would love to visit with you any time! Will check out this new book ASAP. My sister-in-law is having trouble adjusting to her new role as a widow. It's amazing that R and my brother passed away within a day of each other. Please keep in touch, and please keep writing!

  2. HOW EXCITING!!! I will get a copy. My Grim Tales is short, but I'm looking to put it in a book form through Createaspace. I already have it available on Amazon, Barnes and bunches of other sites digitally but I reallllllly want a hard copy.

By the way, thanks for the compliment on Journaling Woman. I love to laugh even when I don't feel like it and try to stick humor in where I can. AND I love when others tell me they laughed at something I said.

    Love our blog!

  5. First of all, congratulations on yet an other launch. You are amazing. I do not have a kindle and I don't buy on line, hopefully one day I shall ie God Willing.
I have been on and off on the blogger. I have been kind of sick, in the sense that I do get things done, but my medication kind of slows me down. I am given a beta blocker which slows down my heart, otherwise my heart is working too fast for my own good. I guess the doctors know what is good for me.
I want to be able to write and more than anything I want to have enough time to read as well. Thank God my kids are all grown up, otherwise I don't know how I would take care of them if they were little with my health conditions.

You take care of yourself please. I am glad that you are feeling energetic. I am sure your dearest hubby would have wanted you to take the best care of yourself and keep up with your hobbies.

  7. I wanted you to know that I just finished Dear Anne and I really enjoyed it. I also wanted you to know that I'm going to Amazon to leave a review.

If you have a chance after you've read Grim Tales, I would sure appreciate a review as well. I think you'll be the first. :)

    Congrats on a great book.

  8. So sorry about your husband. I can't imagine what you're going through, although I went through a divorce and several really hard breakups, but nothing is like the death of a spouse. I do know in time everything gets a little easier...just one step at a time, one day at a time. The one silver lining is that it sets you on a course for a new adventure where you meet new people and experience all new things.

Ah, Spring and all her glory.

I'm enjoying the spring weather that has finally arrived in Ohio bringing blooming pear trees, red buds and tulip trees. How about you? Do you love spring as much as I do? I spent a day on the patio, putting out the table, chairs, umbrella. I painted a white wicker plant table and have decided it's too good for the patio. I plan to use it in the bathroom instead. Just when I thought winter would last forever, spring arrived with temperatures in the 70's. I noted buds covering my rose bush and a robin building a nest in the crevice of my chimney. I wanted to let them stay but they managed to leave so much debris at my front door that I had no choice but to shoo them away. Hopefully they've moved on to one of the many trees and bushes in my community, a more cozy place for raising babies. When I was a kid growing up in Putnam County, WV, I was outside at the first glimpse of the sun coming through my bedroom window. I ran through our yard, down through the orcha

The Dreaded School Pictures

This year when my children brought home their school pictures, I cringed.  These kids can leave home looking cherubic, but the minute they pose for that school photographer they are transposed into unrecognizable beings.  My middle daughter brought home pictures bearing her name and room number that couldn't have been my offspring. Nor a distant relative. I had worked for hours on this child. Her hair was parted in the middle and drawn into a cute little ponytail over each ear. Even though she is at an awkward age, she looked adorable when she went out that door. Her missing front teeth only added to her charm.  The kid in the picture has her mouth open wide displaying ugly dark gaps. Her one visible ponytail is lopsided, her part is uneven, and her bangs look like they were cut with pinking shears. I know this isn't my child because I always give my children a good haircut before they have their pictures taken. The only thing vaguely familiar is the sweater t
